More good news! The Warrenville Post and other Press & LIFE Publications in the western suburbs will publish a feature story on Cat on Wednesday, May 16th--check it out! I just returned from giving 17 concerts in Kansas and one in the St. Louis, Missouri, area, followed by one in Wisconsin and one at the Wood Dale Public Library in the Chicago area. I'm happy to be touring, and happy that my music as of today has now received airplay on at least 68 radio stations across the U.S.! I'm looking forward to sharing my acoustic singer-songwriter music with the University of Illinois at Chicago on Wed., October 11--see my "Concerts" page for details. I have a busy schedule this fall and winter--hope to see you at one of my live performances.
I'm happy to share the great news that I've been selected by the Illinois Humanities Council to be a Road Scholar for the years 2001 - 2003. I'll be touring the state giving concerts related to American Women Songwriters, and Songs of War and Peace. The past few months have been very exciting and fulfilling for me. I've been giving at least 20 concerts every month and am having a great time meeting new people and sharing my music. My concerts in 2001 have fallen into the following groupings: CONCERTS FOR ADULTS IN LIBRARIES: My two concert programs, "Gershwins to Now!--Favorites from the 1930s to Today," and "Songs of the Great Jazz Masters" have been attracting large crowds in the Chicago and St. Louis area. I love singing standards such as "On the Sunny Side of the Street," Ain't Misbehavin," "God Bless the Child," and "Summertime." My April concert near St. Louis, sponsored by the Kirkwood Public Library, was a special thrill for me. CONCERTS FOR CHILDREN IN LIBRARIES: What could be more fun than singing with open-hearted children? I present a children's program, "Feast of Children's Songs," which includes songs about one of my favorite topics of all time--FOOD, tying in with this year's summer reading theme, "Feed Your Need to Read." FOLK VENUES EMPHASIZING MY ORIGINAL SONGS AND CONTEMPORARY FOLK MUSIC: Highlights for me recently have been my concert at Front Porch Music, a great listening room in Valparaiso, Indiana; opening for Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer at Lake County Folk Club; my upcoming show at Newport Coffee House in Bannockburn on May 5, and my upcoming show at the Warrenville Folk-Lore Center on May 19. RETIREMENT CENTERS AND NURSING HOMES: I feel blessed to sing for seniors, who grew up in a time of spontaneous singing together and love to participate. These concerts fill my heart and soul. I am grateful to all of you who are coming to my concerts, giving me a warm welcome when I travel, and supporting my efforts with your enthusiasm and best wishes--and I hope to see you again soon along the folk road!
I just returned from my first trip to Nashville, where I got to perform two songs at the legendary Bluebird Cafe's open mike. I also had meetings with artist representatives at ASCAP and attended a two-day song publishing seminar offered by Nashville Songwriters Association International. What a wonderfully exciting town for songwriters and artists! I can't wait to go there again. Other highlights of 2000 so far include that I was interviewed and performed live on WNUR-FM, Northwestern University in Evanston's radio station on March 12. In February I showcased at the National Folk Alliance Convention held this year in Cleveland. It was five inspiring days of meeting wonderful people and hearing great music. This year I've also had my first radio airplay in Virginia and Michigan, in addition to the 60 stations across the country that have heard my music on the folk radio program "The Midnight Special." Stay tuned as I cover all 50 states, and wherever else American folk music is enjoyed! My performances this year at the Thomas Ford Memorial Library in Western Springs, as the opening act for Hot Soup at the Maple Street Chapel Concert Series in Lombard, and at Caribou Coffee--Glencoe were also big thrills for me. This spring I'll be traveling to the St. Louis, Missouri area and Springfield, Illinois to perform. Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to my concerts at Newport Coffeehouse in Bannockburn, Uncommon Ground in Chicago, and Changes Coffeehouse in Park Forest coming up. Thanks so much for your interest in and support of my music!
Cat Catalani performed a few songs live on WNUR-FM Sunday, December 19th, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The station, broadcast from Northwestern University, can be found on your FM radio dial at 89.3 on Chicago's North Side and the surrounding area. Cat was one of several Chicago songwriters invited to WNUR's annual holiday show that morning, so we hope you were able to tune in and catch the music! Hey-hey! Cat Catalani appeared on cable television for the second time in two months! Cat appeared on a Monday evening from 7:30 - 8:00 p.m. on Media One, cable channel 6, in Downers Grove, Illinois. The half-hour segment was filmed live at the Two Way Street Coffee House. Cat sang four original songs, three songs written by others, and told a few anecdotes in between. Hope you caught it! Cat was also featured on Media One's entertainment segment, "The Scene," broadcast to 85 Chicago suburban communities and 450,000 households, in mid-October. NOTE FROM CAT: I had a wonderfully busy concert schedule last fall -- with my 10th performance within a few months, including showcasing at two regional folk music conventions in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Then I hunkered down to finish some new songs. I hope you enjoyed the holidays and came out on January 15 to Caribou Coffee in Glencoe to hear my new work!
